Communication & Accessibility

Communication access helps Deaf and hard of hearing people fully participate in daily life. The resources below provide information about interpreters, captioning, relay services, and other tools that support accessible communication.

ASL Interpreter Resources

These resources can help you find qualified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters for meetings, events, medical appointments, and other situations.

Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART)                                & Captioning Services

Captioning services provide written text of spoken communication. This helps Deaf and hard of hearing people follow conversations during meetings, events, or videos.

Relay Communication Services

Relay services allow Deaf and hard of hearing individuals to communicate with hearing callers through trained

interpreters using video or other communication technology.

Quick Glance:

Relay services allow Deaf and hard of hearing people to communicate with hearing callers using video, text, or captions.

1) Video Relay Service (VRS): Allows Deaf users to communicate in ASL with hearing callers through a video

                                                     interpreter.

2) IP Relay: Allows users to type messages to a communication assistant who relays the conversation by

                     phone.

3) Captioned Telephone (CapTel): Allows users to speak directly while reading captions of what the other caller

                                                               says.
